Suit Sizing & Tailoring Guide

Find a confident fit for your Slim Fit Brown Suit, Slim Fit Gray Suit or Slim Fit Black Tuxedo. Each is a three-piece style with a jacket, vest and trousers, offered in sizes 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 and 62. Check the fit of all three pieces, not just the jacket.

Start with your body measurements

Use a flexible tape measure and record measurements in centimetres over light clothing. Stand naturally, keep the tape level and snug without squeezing, and ask someone to help. Do not add extra room to your body measurements.

  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms, with your arms relaxed.
  • Natural waist: Measure around your natural waist without holding your breath.
  • Trouser waist: Measure around the position where you wear your suit trousers. Record this separately from your natural waist.
  • Seat: Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  • Inside leg: Measure from the crotch down the inside of the leg to your preferred trouser hem.
  • Height: Record your height to help discuss jacket and trouser proportions during fitting.

Compare with a suit that fits you well

Body measurements and garment measurements are different. A finished garment needs room for movement; its measurements should not simply equal your body measurements. Lay a well-fitting suit flat without stretching it and record the following in centimetres.

  • Jacket chest: Button the jacket, measure across the chest from underarm to underarm and double the flat width for an approximate circumference.
  • Shoulders: Measure across the back from one shoulder seam to the other.
  • Sleeve length: Measure from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
  • Jacket length: Measure down the centre back from the base of the collar to the hem.
  • Trouser waist: Fasten the waistband, lay it flat, measure across and double the width.
  • Trouser inside leg: Measure along the inside seam from crotch to hem.
  • Vest chest: Button the vest, measure across just below the armholes and double the width.

These instructions help you collect useful comparison measurements; they are not a size-specific measurement chart. Sizes 44–62 are size labels, not measurements in centimetres. Ask for the measurements of your chosen style and size, or visit a branch before ordering if you are unsure.

What a slim fit should feel like

A slim fit follows your shape without restricting movement. Shoulder seams should sit near the ends of your shoulders, and the collar should rest comfortably against your shirt. With the jacket fastened, the chest and lapels should lie smoothly without strong pulling or an X-shaped crease around the button.

The vest should sit smoothly without gaping between buttons. Trousers should feel comfortable at the waist, seat and thighs when standing, sitting and walking. Try the full suit with the shirt and shoes you intend to wear. You should be able to sit and move comfortably without seams straining.

Between two adjacent sizes?

Compare both sizes in the same style, such as 48 and 50, rather than relying on a size worn in another brand. Prioritise jacket shoulders and chest, plus comfort through the trouser seat and thighs. Do not choose a smaller size simply to achieve a slimmer look.

If the smaller size pulls or restricts movement, try the next size up. If the larger size fits the shoulders and chest but has extra room at the waist or excess length, ask a tailor whether a modest alteration is practical. A larger size is not automatically better if its shoulders are too wide. If neither size fits all three pieces comfortably, seek an in-person fitting before deciding.

Alterations that may help

Trouser hemming, modest waist adjustments, sleeve-length adjustments and taking in the jacket or vest waist may improve a good starting fit. What is possible depends on the construction, lining, buttonholes and available seam allowance. Letting a garment out or lengthening it is only possible when enough spare fabric is available.

Shoulder changes and major changes to the jacket chest, armholes or length are more complex. Choose the best starting size rather than counting on extensive alterations. Have a tailor inspect the actual suit and confirm feasibility, price and timing before any work begins. Alteration services and charges are not included or promised by this guide.

Visit a branch for a fitting

Unsure which size to choose? Visit a listed Torino branch for personal fitting guidance. Bring your measurements and, if possible, the shirt and shoes you plan to wear. Ask the team to check the jacket, vest and trousers together and discuss any alterations before you decide.
